SWAWeekDistrict 279 Schools will be conducting a tornado drill at 1:45 p.m. on April 24, as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is April 21-25.

On April 24, at 1:45 p.m., the National Weather Service will issue a statewide MOCK tornado WARNING and the outdoor sirens will be activated. Schools will follow emergency procedures while participating in the drill.

Schools that have a conflict with testing may conduct their tornado drill at an alternate time. For more information, please contact your student’s school directly.

Participants in activities in our buildings after-hours, will be asked to participant in an evening drill after outdoor sirens are sounded again at 6:55 p.m. on the same evening.

DeinsteinstateFernbrook Elementary’s Destination Imagination team dEinstein’s placed second at the state tournament and will advance to the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. next month. The team includes: Adamson Novak, Gideon Heroux. Jenny Leonard, Brynn Moncur, Leah Bell and Paul Kochenderfer. They competed in the Pandemonium! Challenge at the middle Level division. This is the improvisational category. The challenge requires teams to create an original five-minute improvisational skit, developing interaction between a character from the past and a contemporary character. 

Three additional ISD 279 teams from Fernbrook and Osseo Junior earned spots as global alternates in their respective divisions.
