In addition to extensive training, tutors will receive on-site support from specially trained school mentors. Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. Tutors earn a living allowance (biweekly before taxes: $544 for full-time member/ $272 for part-time member), educational award ($5,730 for full-time member / $2,865 for part-time member), federal student loan forbearance, and other benefits, and have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a child.

The District 279 Foundation 2015 Reading is Fun 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 15 at Elm Creek Park Reserve. This event is a fundraiser to benefit media centers in each of the Osseo Area Schools.

Important times on race day include:

  • 8 a.m. – registration
  • 9 a.m. – 1K mascot race and family fun run/walk start
  • 9:30 a.m. – 5K run and 5K walk start

ReadingisFunThe 5K walk course is pet and stroller friendly. Awards will be presented to the top three males and females in the following age groups: 5-12; 13 to 18; 19 to 35; 36 to 49; and 50-plus.

Advance registration has closed but same-day registration is available at the event. Registration fees are $20 youth/$35 adults.

Elm Creek Park Reserve’s Acorn Area is located at 12400 James Dean Parkway, Maple Grove.
