Students and staff at Fernbrook Elementary came together to give back to their community on April 25 as the school hosted its Kids for the Cure Walk.
Held each spring, this schoolwide event supports the Susan G. Komen organization, a nonprofit that works to eradicate breast cancer by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. This year, students and staff raised $18,224.28 for the cause, said Fernbrook Elementary Volunteer Coordinator Carol Joelson.
“It was a wonderful way to introduce our students to the power of working together, community outreach and a lifetime of volunteering,” Joelson added.
Since the event began at Fernbrook in 2001, students and staff have raised nearly $186,000 for the Susan G. Komen organization.
