Five Park Center Senior High students submitted their 4,000-word essays for review by examiners around the world. The essay is one part of the requirements to qualify for an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Organization.

The IB Diploma Programme is recognized and respected by the world's leading universities. The opportunity to earn an IB Diploma prepares students with the knowledge and skills to excel in college courses and in their careers.

Here are the students and their essay titles:

  • Faith Noni: To what extent is the use of torture a successful way to win a war based on an analysis of the Algerian war?
  • Favour Noni: How does the role of Atticus Finch in Harper Lee’s two works, To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman, display contradictory values?
  • Giovanni Delgado-Ortiz: How and why do Chicano poets like Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales, Juan Felipe Herrera, Lorna Dee Cervantes, Trinidad Sanchez Jr, and Abelardo “Lalo” Delgado illustrate the condition of Chicanismo in America?
  • Jireh Babalola: How does Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie use symbolism and voice in Americanah to express the struggle of identity for African immigrants?
  • Koffi Amegble: How does Ray Bradbury articulate governmental oppression within the novel Fahrenheit 451?

To be awarded the diploma, students must complete coursework and exams in the areas of the arts, humanities, science, mathematics and a second language. In addition to pursuing these subjects, all Diploma Program students complete a 4000-word extended essay and spend time completing creativity, activity, and service activities. They will take their exams later on in the spring.
