The STEAM (STEM plus Arts) program at Brooklyn Junior High builds a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to prepare students for success in the 21st century. The program provides a secondary path for students in both of our district’s elementary magnet schools (Weaver Lake STEM and Birch Grove School for the Arts). Brooklyn Junior High's STEAM program is part of the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD) and is available to students in the eight NWSISD member school districts.
Brooklyn Junior High’s STEAM program supports students as they:
- Engage in a seamless inquiry-based learning experience dedicated to using STEAM to solve problem;
- Set goals and work to obtain the skills, knowledge and experiences that will position them for future success, particularly in the STEAM disciplines;
- Participate in authentic real-world experiences with practicing scientists, engineers and technical professionals;
- Participate in challenging and accelerated opportunities to demonstrate content mastery.
Brooklyn Junior High has received generous donations from Boston Scientific to help launch the STEAM program. The grants have helped support speakers, webinars, student field trips, equipment and teacher training.
