Following last spring’s award announcement, Rice Lake Elementary Principal Mark French was honored as Minnesota’s 2015 National Distinguished Principal at an awards ceremony held recently in Washington, DC. The awards program and ceremony were sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
The award highlights the importance of the school principal in achieving educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students and reinforces their continued leadership in helping children develop a lifelong love of learning. One exemplary elementary or middle school principal is chosen annually from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Contributing to French’s selection for the award were his accomplishments in creating a positive school culture; supporting technology learning and leadership and co-founding Students Connecting Through International Service Project —project that builds student leadership skills and gathers school supplies and equipment for an elementary school in Sasabe, Sonora, Mexico.
French is among nearly 10 Osseo Area Schools employees who have been recognized over the past three years with the highest awards possible from their state or national professional associations.
